Since 1954
Loud, for seventy years
Cerwin Vega was founded on the idea that a speaker should be able to fill a room the way a concert fills a hall. Everything since has been a version of that argument.

1954
An aerospace engineer wants concert volume at home
Gene Czerwinski founds Cerwin Vega in California with one idea: speakers that can reproduce concert-level sound in an ordinary room. The first product is an 18 inch driver built to move serious air, and that ambition has not changed since.

1957
The first solid-state amplifier
Cerwin Vega releases a 125 watt solid-state amplifier, which the brand records as the world's first. Three years in and the company is already building the amplification to match its drivers.

1960s to 70s
On stage with rock
Cerwin Vega woofers become a fixture of touring rock rigs and find their way into amplifiers from other manufacturers. The Earthquake horn-loaded cabinets turn up on stages where the low end has to carry to the back of the field.

1970s
ThermoVapor Suspension and the Stroker
Two technologies that still define the brand. ThermoVapor Suspension improves bass output, and the Stroker dual spider woofer lets a cone travel further under control. Cerwin Vega also puts castors and carpet on cabinets, because the gear is going to be moved.

1974
An Academy Award for Sensurround
For the film Earthquake, Cerwin Vega develops Sensurround, a low-frequency cinema system that lets audiences feel the quake as much as hear it. It earns an Academy Award for technical achievement, and the dual 18 inch bass horns built for it become legend.

1980s to 2000s
Car, home and pro
The brand grows into three ranges. Car audio takes the Stroker name into the boot, home audio brings the floorstanders into lounges, and professional audio keeps the stage work going. The same intent across all three: loud, clean and built to last.

1996
Stroker subwoofers pass 160 dB
Stroker car subwoofers clear 160 dB SPL in competition. The name that started as a dual spider woofer design is now a benchmark in sound pressure, and it is still on current Cerwin Vega car audio today.
